With over 90 years of experience, we've built up quite the successful track record.
The Quality Assurance and Reliability Engineering team (QA&RE) brings with it 90 years of proven experience and knowledge in the field of quality and reliability engineering. This award-winning team also has extensive experience in Quality Management Systems (QMS) that conform to industry standards such as: ISO 9001, QS 9000, TS 16949, ISO 13485, AS 9100, and ISO 17025.
We are focused on continuous improvement of design, manufacturing, and supplier quality of products / processes and their validation, life cycle processes, service industry processes, and reliability of high-tech products in the following categories:
- medical
- banking
- insurance systems
- aerospace
- automotive
- consumer electronics
- health related systems such as hospitals
- secure payment transaction systems and electromechanical systems
- government services quality management systems (QMS)
The Team
Abdul Majid Khalfan, CQE
Principal
James McLinn
Reliability Consultant, Fellow ASQ
George Woodley, Six Sigma Consultant
Certified Master Black Belt & Lean Master Practitioner
The QA&RE Team has served as Chairmen of various ASQ Quality and Reliability sections. They have lectured on many subjects related to quality, continuous improvement, Process Management, Quality Management Systems (QMS), Six Sigma, and reliability of products and services in Canada, U.S.A, and overseas. The Team has led trainings, facilitations, and presentations at colleges, universities of technology, business locations locally and internationally, and as well as at ASQ conferences, IEEE, and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers meetings. Their published monographs include topics such as Weibull Analysis, Accelerated Life Test (ALT), and Mechanical Reliability and also authored papers to explain statistical concepts in simple terms.
Examples of Objective Achievements - Continuous Improvements:
Product Validation Cost Improvements
- Cost Savings of over $500,000, and improved performance by testing the quality and the reliability of 7 products at a high-tech Fortune 500, largest Manufacturing company in the world with over 200,000 employees, headquartered in Singapore.
- Cost Savings of $400,000, with improved performance on 6 products at a leading high-tech International Secure Payment Transaction Processing System company based in Paris, France.
Design, Manufacturing, Supplier Quality Improvements
- Improved Product Performance by a minimum of 33% on 15 different product models.
- Improved design via Six Sigma projects and statistical analysis of field service data, Out-of-Box Audits, in-plant process audits, customer sites visitation and feedback, six sigma projects resulting in cost savings of over $ 3 million per year on 3 products.
- Improved Manufacturing Quality (Out-of-Box Quality - OBA) from 75% Defect Free to 95% Defect Free on 15 different product categories and models. On one product alone improved it to 99% Defect Free.
- Improved Supplier quality costs on one critical part by 75% (savings of $1.4 million per year) without the degradation of part performance.
Quality Management Systems (QMS)
- Successfully established from 'ground zero' Quality Management System (QMS) - planned, designed, constructed, documented, implemented, and trained all company personnel in accordance with ISO 9001 Standard. Company achieved its certification status in the very first audit from a recognized third party certification body (QMI Canada) without a single 'Major' finding.
Process Improvements with Cost Savings
- Planned, designed, constructed, documented, implemented, and trained all Design and Manufacturing personnel in Corporate award winning 'Early Life Hardware Performance Improvement Process'. The objective being for the new products manufactured to perform at the same level as would be the case as in the 'Constant Failure Rate' segment of a 'Bath Tub Curve'. There should be no distinction between the 'Early Life of a Product' versus the 'Constant Failure Rate' performance.
- Product Performance improvement of 41% during the Early Life period.
- Streamlined Manufacturing Out-of-Box OBA) Quality process by improving its efficacy: OBA data consistency and accuracy, adapting OBA database across company wide, data available 24/7 on a click of a button, saved the company of $ 72,000 per year and 4 man-days.
- Six Sigma Project savings were in the millions of dollars in cost reductions and ROI (Return on Investment). The most recent initiatives were with the Alberta Treasury Branches (ATB), more than $10,567,000 and TD-Digital Services, with savings of over $8 million.
State-of-the-Art Product Validation/Qualification Test Labs
- Planned, designed, constructed and operated from ground zero two laboratories at Flextronics, Burlington, Ontario, Canada, and at Ingenico Canada Ltd., to test, validate, and qualify new designs of hardware products which included electrical, mechanical, and industrial designs as stand-alone and as integrated systems throughout the product life cycle. The validation included Design, Manufacturing, and Supplier quality plus Safety and Regulatory requirements. New Product Introduction (NPI) was part of the validation process.
Process Management Training - In-house and at Customer Sites
- Trained over 300 Associates in a two days course emphasizing the need to minimize waste and meet customer (internal and external) requirements at all times resulting in customer satisfaction and at times exceeding customer satisfaction.
- Won Corporate Award for outstanding service and was dubbed as 'Quality Man' by a valued customer - Bell & Howell.
- Additional projects, training, mentoring and facilitation for clients included Washington Mutual Bank, Alltel Telecommunications, the Internal Revenue Services (IRS), and the Bank of Montreal’s (BMO) mortgage initiatives. Work affiliations included the Toronto Dominion-Canada Trust Bank (TD) as a Master Black Belt and Project Manager and Alberta Treasury Branches (ATB) as a course designer, facilitator and MBB coach. These roles included one-on-one mentoring of 50 Black Belts and approximately 100 Green Belt and Lean students. The realized savings in the form of reduction in the cost of poor quality was in the tens of millions of dollars.
The above examples of achievements are a few of the many over a combined period of 90 years of Quality Assurance, Quality Management Systems (QMS), Process Management, Project Management, and Reliability Engineering experience by the QA&RE Team.
